There is much happening in Will County but our immediate need is to fight for its long term health.
We´re the crossroads of the largest North American inland port. We have wide open tall-grass prairies reclaimed from a World War II ammunition factory. We have rich farmland and miles of warehouses. We´re a hub on the modern day silk road. It´s a marvelous hub of 21st century progress.
Now, multi-national corporations want to use our land to make them money. They have track record of pollution and poverty in their wake. The City of Joliet in partnership with these corporations are trying to tell us we will benefit. The evidence shows benefit only for corporate shareholders.
We will not fight the data centers with money. They have more money than most nations. We will not influence politicians by our impassioned public comment at council meetings, though public comments are needed so that we can connect with each other. We will fight them by voting the council members who allow construction of data centers out of office. Their political days are numbered. It is time for the citizens ofJoliet to take charge.
